You must become knowledgeable about hitting a free-throw shot. This seems like an easy shot, but it is quite hard. Make sure that you're applying the following technique when practicing. Having a good foundation is key when shooting the ball. You have seen some crazy shots made by professionals, but these shots aren't going to be based on fundamentals. It is important to know the right way to throw a bounce pass. A useful bounce pass will hit the receiving player at waist level. Remember you should bounce the ball approximately three-quarters of the distance between yourself and the receiving player. It does depend on a variety of other factors, however.

Keep your eye on the ball. You will enjoy greater court awareness and avoid feeling surprised by rapid changes in game play. Pay attention to open areas for passes, too.

Be sure that you're able to see clearly. You don't just want to be able to pass and shoot well. Your peripheral vision should be the best it can be. If you view the entire game without focusing on the ball, you'll see defensive pressure advance, along with open teammates.

Do you want to fool the other team? Try doing what is known as a back pass. To accomplish this pass, grasp the ball using your dominant hand. Then you will want to pull the ball into position behind your back. Then do a wrist flick in the same direction that you want the ball to end up. This helps trick your opponents.

Never turn away from the ball, so that you can always stay ready for anything. This provides court awareness and prevents you from unexpected turnovers or quick passes. Always watch for areas opening up where you can go for a quick basket.

Consistent free throws require a consistent technique. Inconsistent shooting will lead to inconsistent results. The best way to perfect your free throw shooting technique is through repetition by practicing the same routine over and over again. You'll miss if you don't have a good routine down.

Be sure you're doing the right kinds of exercises off the court to help you on it. Running, both sprints and long distance, can help your game. Build up your core muscles and the strength in your forearms. If you can develop your confidence through off-court exercise, this can even help your shooting.

If you're playing regulation basketball, you need a hoop that is ten feet high, a large court and ten players. Knowing the basics will enable you to play better. The tips you just read should be helpful but they represent a very small portion of the many things you need to know about basketball.
